Overview – 8201 IP PoE intercom for secure door entry
The 8201 IP PoE intercom from Algo is a SIP-based door intercom for secure entrance doors, gates, access points and room intercom applications. It provides hands-free, two-way voice communication so visitors can request entry or assistance in a simple and reliable way. Because it is a fully compliant third-party SIP endpoint, the 8201 works with most hosted, cloud and on-premise VoIP telephone systems.
Hands-free two-way communication and access control
The 8201 is designed for hands-free operation. A visitor presses the backlit call button to place an intercom call to a phone, a hunt group or a call queue. Staff can answer from a desk phone, softphone or mobile client and speak with the caller in wideband HD audio. After confirming the visitor, they can unlock the door or gate using the telephone keypad. The integrated relay, or an optional 8061 IP relay controller, lets you trigger a door strike or gate control from a secure location.
SIP, PoE and easy integration with VoIP and UC platforms
As a SIP intercom, the 8201 registers as a standard SIP extension. It can initiate or receive calls, so you can use it for both door entry and room intercom roles. In addition, it supports secure SIP using TLS and SRTP to protect signaling and media. Wideband G.722 audio improves clarity and intelligibility for both sides of the conversation.
The device is powered by PoE (IEEE 802.3af), which reduces cabling and removes the need for a local power supply. It can integrate with many UC and VoIP platforms, including services that use the Microsoft Teams SIP Gateway, Zoom or RingCentral, through standard SIP registration. Configuration and provisioning use a browser-based web interface or automatic provisioning methods, so deployment remains straightforward even on large networks.
Rugged, outdoor-rated design and flexible mounting
The 8201 IP PoE intercom uses a compact, weather-resistant design for both indoor and outdoor locations. The enclosure is outdoor-rated and includes conformal-coated electronics to protect against moisture and dust. A stainless steel faceplate and tactile, backlit silicone rubber call button provide long service life in demanding environments.
You can surface-mount the intercom or flush-mount it in a standard double-gang electrical box. This flexibility makes it easy to install at main entrances, side doors, service entries or internal call stations. Because the unit is powered and managed over the network, you can place it wherever a network cable is available.
Typical use cases and applications
The 8201 IP PoE intercom is ideal for secure door or gate entry at office buildings, schools, universities, warehouses and factories. Visitors press the call button to request access, and staff can talk to them and unlock the door remotely. In addition, the 8201 works well as a help point or assistance phone in lobbies, parking areas, loading docks and internal corridors.
Because it is SIP-based, you can route calls from the intercom to security desks, reception teams, call centers or mobile devices. For larger sites, you can combine the 8201 with Algo IP speakers, visual alerters and paging adapters to build a complete IP-based notification and access control system.
